Our Story

Elaine Warfel Stauffer, the proud owner of Warfels Chocolates, is deeply rooted in both candy-making and the tradition of farmer's markets. Her journey into confectionery began at a tender age, working alongside her mother to sell their homemade fudge, cookies, and cakes at the bustling Central Market in Lancaster, Pennsylvania—a tradition captured in cherished family photos.

Years later, while living on a ranch in rural Kansas, Elaine ventured into entrepreneurship again. She opened a bakery and chocolate shop on Main Street in Alma, where her exquisite chocolate pecan toffee gained prestigious recognition, appearing on shelves at Bloomingdales stores nationwide. This exposure catapulted sales at her small shop in Alma and launched a thriving mail-order business.

In 1993, Elaine and her family relocated to the serene Shenandoah Valley. Almost immediately, she set her sights on the Dayton Farmer's Market as the ideal location for her new venture. In May 1994, Warfels Chocolates opened its doors, offering an array of freshly crafted, high-quality chocolates and sweets. While caramel turtles, chocolate crème truffles, and the famous chocolate pecan toffee remain perennial favorites, Elaine also delights customers with a diverse selection of homemade candies. From chocolate-dipped pretzels to unique creations like chili chocolate and Earl Grey/lavender bars, every treat is lovingly handmade in small batches in Elaine's specially designated "chocolate room" at her home.

Today, Warfels Chocolates continues to thrive, known for its commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and the timeless artistry of small-batch candy-making. Visitors to the Dayton Farmer's Market are treated not only to delicious confections but also to a taste of tradition and a story of passion passed down through generations.
